Wifi bandit - wow. Thank you for posting that!!
Just gobsmacked, like you, PunkOfNice!
...
"STICK WITH WHAT **WE** HAVE AUTHORIZED...AND YOU'LL BE SAFE"
...
!!!!!!
My eyes popped out at that! Totally gobsmacked!
He didn't say, stick with what Jehovah says, or stick with what the bible says, he said, (like MOSES and the getting water out of rock thing -- "... Must I get water from this rock?") -- "Stick with what WE have authorized"!!!!!!!!
We...!!! -- As in, We, the GOVERNING BODY -- who are making ourselves masters over your faith and who are (yeah, right) "fellow servants" (though I don't really think anyone can possibly believe that any more!) --
WE!! - as in, "Do not put your faith in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom there is no salvation..." (Psalms 146:3,4) -- yet stick with what we have authorized!! --
We!! -- as in the first-letters always capitalized now -- the Governing Body -- when "we" don't even capitalize Jehovah's personal pronouns (he, him, his) !!!!! so as to not draw undo attention to little words (that would actually help elevate their God) but might take away from the precious text in the WT --
!!!!
This just keeps getting better and better. How can people NOT WAKE UP!!??!!

Yes, it is good to taste the world -- life!! -- and see that it is good!
It is good to see and know that there are so many wonderful, good, kind people of the WORLD that is now all opened up and I don't have to avoid people or refuse their invitations. They can be my friends .
I can read all books that I want, see any movie I wish, involve myself in anything I choose. And funny enough, that actually makes me feel MORE RESPONSIBLE and accountable because I finally feel connected to everything again. We are all in this together, we are all on our journey through life, working & trying to get by, to be with our families and be good people... (Yes, there are idiots and psychos out there, but I feel they are in the minority of people as a whole, most people are hard working and honest.)
My time is more valuable to me, life is a commodity of great & precious value, not something to be set aside while I wait for a dream to come true (paradise! living forever!)
When you suddenly DON'T have all the answers, it makes you feel more humble, less judgmental. You feel like you have rejoined the human race, you feel compassionate toward people again. You don't look at people through the WT lens -- which makes all non-JW people evil, spiritually dangerous, misled by Satan, and out to shipwreck your faith...
Yes, you feel more loving and in tune with humanity. You also become less interested in people's personal lives and things which are none of your concern or business!! No need to (covertly) snoop through their books or videos to see if your "friends" are wholesome association! Because WT policies and dogma practically turn JWs into SPIES on each other! Now I would never presume to be so rude!! I shake my head at my JW self - what an arrogant self- righteous bitch I was! And never even knew it.
I respect my friends' privacy and their right to be whoever they want to be. So many things are none of my damn business, and this feels good. JWs are so intrusive!
Oh I'm sure there are many more things, but this will do for now! :)

Irreligious- Bill Maher
by purrpurr ini just watched this film on netflix.
if you haven't seen it its worth watching just for the ways he demolishes the religious advocates he interviews.. the most worrying things i saw in it were the us senator who says that having a high iq isn't a criteria for being senator and also all the muslims he interviews who despite claiming to have read the quran also claim that islam is a religion of peace..

Thank you for posting that video. I was fascinated, watched the whole thing and ABSOLUTELY AGREE with all Bill Maher's comments at the end.
"For people to live, religion must die!" I love how he says "... Isn't it more humbling to be in doubt, when you do not know all the answers...?"
Faith (blind, stupid belief) keeps a person trapped in their only mindset of being right, which then makes them arrogant, deluded and dangerous. It is Terrifying to behold.
I shake my head at myself for having been just like some of those people in the video....

Infuriating Elder recorded on JWStruggle
by dhlpcjw inhelp from a loving jehovah's witness elder part 1. this elder is clearly out of touch with all emotion period as this poor girl pours her heart out to him.
can these untrained, unloving, pharisees possibly be fit to represent a god of love?

Oubliette, you said,
"This woman is clearly in need of serious psychological counseling and help. She is an emotional mess.
The problem is that both she and the elders think that she can get that help from the elders. This is wrong."
...
YES!! *THIS*!! You are so right -- "THE PROBLEM IS THAT BOTH SHE & THE ELDERS THINK THAT SHE CAN GET THAT HELP FROM THE ELDERS."
The arrogance, the hubris, the pompousness and sheer idiocy of the GB and WT policies & dogma create situations like this where people SUFFER and dangerous things can, and do, happen.
The WT policies and dogma allow men (at the top) to rule over others, and they then state that every weakness or infraction is a sin, personal failure, imperfection, or a "falling short of the mark." They do not address mental illness except as state of "spiritual weakness", or as a state where one is not being faithful or reliant enough on Jehovah. It is a constant refrain of different ways to "blame the victim" and not accept any responsibility or accountability for themselves.
You see see this more in part 2, where all the elder can fall back on are organization policies & directives and then, ultimately blaming her and her son for not being at meetings enough.

Wow. Am also wanting to hear Part 2 and the elder's response to her.
She he is pouring her heart out to him and he doesn't even acknowledge her pain or suffering, or apologize for his part in the, shall we call them "misunderstandings" -- just starts talking about the way things are done in the organization.
He he reminds me of that clueless boss in the movie "Office Space", where he goes, "... yeah... " really slow and not-getting anything!
She says to him, "... YOU are Jehovah's representatives!"
And he goes, ".... right...."
She says to him, "... I love you guys, and you - you've known me from infancy... and you're our shepherds and I love you!"
And he goes, "... Uh huh..."

I sometimes wonder about this too... About 3-4 years ago I posted here and elsewhere that a large part of my awakening happened when I re-looked at the book, My Book of Bible Stories, which I was going to give to our little grandchildren... The pictures were suddenly so shocking and awful to me, imagining seeing them thru their little eyes.
and then a year later or so, out comes Caleb & Sophia....
Geez. I'm hoping it was just a coincidence. But they still have stupid pictures in the WT and books, so who really knows...!

Street Witnessing - did you ever do it?
by Muddy Waters ini remember in our congregation, there were a few older pioneer sisters who would start counting their time early - even before the service arrangement - by standing at a street corner and holding the magazines up in front of them and hoping that any passersby might stop to take one on their way to work or whatever.
as a fresh, new dub, i had heard about this "street-witnessing" work, but there was only one time i ever actually saw one of these older sisters doing this.
and even then i was shocked and embarrassed for her.... because this poor old sister was standing there, all by herself, holding up the watchtower & awake magazines, yet looking as sad and depressed as she could possibly ever look, her whole mouth was turned down just totally sad as she stood there, observing all the "dead" people walking around, hurrying to catch buses, get kids to school, get to work, etc.
